Looking Out The Window

Looking out the window brought into focus what attire to wear

It wasn't a long walk for solitude and meditation

Maybe the running shoes would suffice for this jaunt

The hoody draped over the armchair brought protection from the wind

The flowing of the flag in the park dictated its direction

I knew which way I would be headed

The eyegate brought into view things normally missed along the way

Papers faded in colour and strewn across the culverts

Pop cans cigarette butts, string, an old ball that some dog had played with

And finally upon numerous retrieves, had decided, enough was enough

The familiar barking of the neighbourhood dogs as their attention was arrested

Who was this coming near their territorial boundary

Their alertness brought out the aggressiveness or friendliness

A quick glance in their direction was enough to know the ground rules

Vehicles, trailers, lumber presented laneways collectables

Each yard a determination of what are these people like anyways

Meandering thoughts took flight and permeated the mind

Brief moments of ascertation and concentration to that effect

Suddenly a cat scuttled and ran for the hedges

Peering out with wondering eyes, what's this guy doing here

Low thoughts, natures variety of humanity and human conditions

High thoughts, God you made me and are intrinsically interested

In both my physical and spiritual condition

You enable this puny brain to wrap its mind around things

Temporal and things eternal, You break into this mindset

You help me to soar above the heavenlies

And wing my flight to realms unknown but yet known because of Who You are

A transcendancy takes place and it is no longer the things of this world

But of other worldliness,,,,,Thy World no less......Heaven......The Glory of God

You are to be known and can be known through the person and work of our Lord Jesus Christ

How worthy is Thy name and the understanding of Thy character, Holiness personified in the flesh

God the Son and the Son of God.............Hallelujah! What a Saviour

Before I know it, I've gone quite a few blocks and yet

It seemed that I had only just begun

My mind and heart, hidden from the view of neighbouring eyes

Contained peace and joy and a refreshing aroma of spiritual fortitude

I am His and He is mine

I opened the door, unlaced the runners, removed the hoody

The flag across the way on the pole was hanging still

No wind now, it was well, with my soul................

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
