David Lowly Shepherd

DAVID LOWLY SHEPHERD

Came that lowly shepherd

To the war that day

He came unto the battle

He came to sling and play

That the Jewish people

And their God be dethroned

It gave him righteous anger

And chilled him to the bone

So what he was a giant

Goliath being his name

There wasn't man or beast alive

But that his God could tame

Mocking, big man, standing tall

Fitted to the ten

Bold as brass, shielded with armor

Would soon come to his end

Big mouthed Philistine babbler

Boasting in his strength

Was soon to meet his Maker

And find his end at length

Heart as hard as stone

Braggard that he be

Demeaning to the people of God

The lowly shepherd did see.

Send you out this little lad

To fight for you this day

Don't make me laugh, The giant said,

"Your army will flee away."

But what he didn't realize

This was a God sent man

He'd been practicing with his sling

Time and time again.

Few small stones in his hand

The giants doom was sealed

With markmanship that God had planned

Isreal would be healed.

No weapon formed against it shall prosper

God has sealed it with His blood

Think ye giants will win the battle

Well, think again - our God has stood!

He stands and laughs at punyness

Brings the big man to his knees

Sends his head a rolling yonder

Stand up and applaud the King indeed.

High fives all around

For David got his man

Awesome is our God above

Lets give Him another hand.

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
