If The Thief

If The Thief

If the thief on the Cross had faith to die
Then Lord give me faith to live
He wasn't trusting in His good works
But in the work that Jesus did!
Far too late to be baptized
Nor need for fancy prayers...
Just a... " Lord remember me when you come in Your Kingdom"
And that very day He was there!

Now that's what I call saving faith
Trusting entirely in the One!
Who lived a life and died a death!
To provide a so great Salvation!
Love stretched out at Calvary
Shedding the blood of the Innocent...
But O what power...O what power!
That God in His Son has sent!

Needing forgiveness...come!
There's room at the Cross for you!
And a hope...a blessed...blessed Hope!
That His Resurrection has brought us too!
I ...have a Redeemer!...
Who paid the full price for my sin
His worth... far above any treasure
Or wealth that man's ever seen!

When you have Christ on the inside
Hallelujah!..praise the Lord!
You have the seal of God written on your heart!
For God always honors His Word!
His Spirit moves in quickening power
To ignite the heart that believes
And once the Saviour lives inside
Praise God He never leaves!!!

The thief on the Cross stole away
As a purchased...prized...possession
All because of His faith in Christ
And of his repentant heart's confession
Shall I who live do any less
If so...I'd be robbing God!
Of the greatest gift that He ever gave to man
In the gifting of His love!

He sent His Son...and what a Son!
Who became obedient unto death...
For the joy that was set before Him
To offer us eternal breathe!
May I be just like that thief...
But in my living hour!
And call believingly upon the name of the Lord
For praise God!...He has all the power!!!

Hallelujah what a Saviour!

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
