I Must Learn

I MUST LEARN

I must learn to make a list

Of the things for which to pray

If I don't discipline myself

Other things get in the way

So easy to turn aside

From the necessity of prayer

I must take my burdens to the Lord

And learn to leave them there

It's so easy to get busy

And be caught up in our work

And overload becomes too common

And fervent prayer we shirk

Then our sleep gets full priority

For we must need our rest

We leave off with a token prayer

And miss out being blessed

O God please prod us with Thy Spirit

To humbly seek Thy face

To enjoy precious time in Thy presence

With Thy "Amazing Grace "

And keep us close to Thy breast

Under Thy sheltering wing

Till we confess every hindrance

And renounce each hidden sin

Then will the floodgates of heaven

Open wide their doors

And pour out blessings on our soul

Because we sought the Lord

In that place of quietness

Near to the heart of God

Salvation's worth is surely owned

Praise God for Christ's shed blood

I must learn to make a list

I'm going to grab a pen

And make them in their order of priority.

And check them over again

Then as God's blessed Spirit leads me

I'll cover them with prayer

And patiently wait until that day

When each one is answered there!

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
