Oh It's Grand to Be a Christian
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

Oh, It's Grand to be a Christian

Oh, it’s grand to be a Christian
To walk in the light of God’s dear Word
To have a joy that is unspeakable
To delight in knowing Christ as Lord.

To cherish all we have in Jesus
Riches that fade not away with time
But which grow sweeter day by day
In a delight that is sublime.

To know that in the quiet hours
God imparts His wondrous grace
To know that in a coming day
We’ll see our Saviour face to face!

Oh the glory of Salvation
That our birth is from above
That our God has condescended
To give us life through His shed blood.

He doth let and who shall hinder
The gates of hell shall not prevail
Christ shall snatch away His bought ones
Then He will remove the veil.

Oh dear brother and dear sister
Look to Him who our sins did bare
Take that glorious gospel with you
Spread those tidings everywhere.

Days are quickly fleeting by us
Souls are sinking to satan’s domain
Let us hold the Lord’s banner before us
Beseeching them in Christ’s dear name

To look to Jesus ere the evening
Darkness comes then will be too late
Tell them it’s written in the Bible
God’s Word says, “Behold, today”

If you will hear His voice still speaking
Harden not your hearts we’re told
But look to Christ in simple faith
And be a sheep safe in the fold.

His Hand that is so mighty to save
It lifts us up in time of need
He gives us pleasures ever more
When we wait at Jesus feet

He prepares the path before us
What doth hinder, .He casts aside
He is making the preparations
When Christ shall come back for His bride

He has purchased my redemption
On that Cross at Calvary
Henceforth we should live for Jesus
Now and till eternity.

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
