They Took the Body Away
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

THEY TOOK THE BODY AWAY

After the Saviour was crucified
And they took the body away
Others standing around the cross
Said “Well, let’s call it a day”

They thought that it was over
And finally put to rest
The notion that this man Jesus Christ
T’was the Son of God, no less

Although a few believed Him
One at the foot and one on the cross
The majority of the people there
Thought lightly of this loss

But the three days they had forgotten
After He’d drank that bitter cup
Destroy this temple said He
In three days I will raise it up

The world was not up waiting
For that appointed time
Thousands never milled around the site
When He was buried in the tomb

The soldiers probably wondered
“What are we doing here?
No one has ever risen from the dead,
What do we have to fear?”

But in the early morning hour
At the beginning of the Day
An earthquake by the power of God
That stone was rolled away

The rock, one which He made
A specimen of  His Creation
The angels sat thereupon
To tell so great Salvation

He is alive, He’s not here
He has risen indeed
Fear not Mary, tell the others
This is the message they need

That Rock is Christ
A sure foundation
He the chief cornerstone
For God so loved the world

He gave His only begotten Son
This is the message - Take it home!

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
