I Remember
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

I Remember

I remember those gospel meetings
That lasted a week or so
How the Word of God penetrated my heart
And stirred within my soul
I learnt the word conviction
Conviction for my sin
That I was under God's condemnation
Because of my unbelief in Him

It changed my mind abruptly
As I learned more of the Word
I found that I was a sinner lost
And in definite need of the Lord
God's fear began to take hold of me
I saw that I was undone
One breath away from eternity
With Hell as my destination

I began to learn to pray
God...I believe this is your Word
If there's such a thing as knowing the Saviour
God I wish to be assured
If there's something that I have to feel
Or something that I have to do
Lord I pray You'll reveal it to me
As I read Your Word on through

I was reading in the Gospel of John
Reading of the all I am's
That Jesus was the way, the truth and the life
And my dawning of faith began
I am the good Shepherd
Who giveth His life for the sheep
I am the Water and Bread of life
I will be your substance to keep

I am the door
By the which you may enter in
I am the Light of the world
Faith's journey began to sink in
I am the Resurrection and Life
Whomsoever believeth on me
Though he were dead yet shall He live
The Spirit brought it on home the reality of it to me

I saw it as clear as all get it out
How I was lost and undone
But praise God if Jesus was all those I Am's
Then Hallelujah He was my  Salvation
There was nothing that I had to do
Or nothing that I had to feel
The Word of God made it very clear
That faith in Christ could be real

I put my bible aside
And ventured to my bed
I got down on my knees
And these are the words I said
God I know I'm a sinner
And deserving of all of  Your wrath
But You placed the penalty that I deserved
Upon the only Son You had

You raised Him up from the dead
He's now at Your right hand
Please Lord Jesus come into my heart for I truly understand!
The Spirit witnessed to me
That I was born again
And a happy camper I became
In Jesus name ...Amen!!!!

Hallelujah what a Saviour!

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
