We Lost A Personal Friend Today

We Lost A Personal Friend Today

We lost a personal friend today
That we've known for many years
Who'se been with us through many trials
Through blood and sweat and tears
Whom we met on a venture of faith
Back in nineteen eighty five
And witnessed God's wonderful blessings
While she was still alive

She watched the children grow over time
Their antics and their fun
Their helping out with family chores
Whether in the rain or in the son
The happiness that nature brings
When you're living in its midst
The excitement of gathering chicken eggs
Or the delivery of baby chicks

O it's memory lane alright for sure
When I think of life back then
When learning the ropes on farming life
It was an adventure of faith my friends
The pigs, the goats, the rabbits
The horse, the ducks, the cow
The addition to the existing dwelling
I remember them all so well

That Christian radio station
With reception that was top notch
The many messages that we listened too
At the passing of the clock
And children's programs Saturday morning
The kids could hardly wait
To hear their favorite songs and stories
Boy those times were great

So Lord I thank You once again
For the blessing that You gave
When on a stepping out by faith
You gave me the Friend I had
And new beginnings will arise
On the ashes of her grave
Goodbye old farm its been good to know ya
Where faith's story has been replayed!

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
