It Was a Huge, Huge Debt

IT WAS A HUGE HUGE DEBT

It was a huge, huge debt of sin
One definitely not in our favour
That deemed God necessary to come to earth
And be Himself our Saviour
Creation...stunned in magnitude
How can, how can this be
That our God would humble Himself
To die for you and me

Angels stood by patiently
And watched the story unfold
Did their part so gloriously
Ensuring the story be told
While we lost sinner's knew it not
God was undertaking
The way of Salvation for mankind
Of every tribe and nation

And only "One" name would secure
Our entrance into glory
That being the name of "Jesus Christ"
From the dawning of all history
Only one name upon which to believe
To guarantee our journey
Praise God that name of "Jesus Christ"
You should get to know "right early!"

Don't wait till old age wears you down
And nurses are attending
But rush to Him today my friend
And get your knees a bending
For God has come...Immanuel!
He's Holy, Holy thrice
Look for deliverance from none other
Than the name of "Jesus Christ!"

That's still the name I love to hear
When spoken reverently
For it has brought peace to my soul
From sin has set me free
Though this old flesh still tries it's best
To wear my Spirit down
I look unto the Lamb of God
Who bore "this sinner's" crown!

And for that blessed name of Christ
I thank my God now daily
That He took the time of day
To come to earth to save me
And all my sin...yes collectively
He paid that debts full payment
Pardoned from the curse of sin
"Jesus Christ" ....dressed In God's arraignment!

So magnify, magnify
That precious name of Jesus
None other name so deserving
Than the One who can release us
From the haunting dregs of sin
And a hell of our own making
To a glorious kingdom of Light
His "personal" undertaking!

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
