Jesus, Beloved Friend of Sinners

Jesus, Beloved Friend of Sinners

Jesus beloved Friend of sinners,
Thou my lasting portion be.
Put to death, for my pardon,
There that day at Calvary!

Took upon His sinless body,
All the wrath that I deserved!
Now a glorious place in heaven,
For this sinner is secured.

Wrath of wrath that God bestowed,
On His blessed Son that day.
When Christ took our sin upon Him,
God had to turn His back away!

He weeps for sinners in their folly,
He watches them roam in fields afar.
The kindly Shepherd entreats so lovely,
For the one's He's suffered for.

So sinner stop and reconsider,
What was done that blessed day!
When Christ was nailed to that cross,
He took your every sin away!

His forgiveness knows no measure,
Height, nor depth, nor length can tell,
Oh the width of God's salvation!
Jesus doeth all things well!

All who come to Him shall know,
His mercy, it endures forever.
His grace sufficient for the soul,
Our home, our rest, beyond the river.

The Shepherd seeks to bring the fold,
God's way was through the cursed cross.
So sinner flee to Calvary!
If not! Forever you’ll be lost!

His blood was shed, had to be,
For remission of our sins.
The way a lonely garden path,
And Gethsemane was it’s name.

A traitor led them to the Lord,
And then he cowardly fled away.
Thirty pieces of silver could not afford,
The awful price Christ had to pay!

The accursed cross was raised that day,
And all were gathered round to see,
That very blessed Son of God,
Who gave His life that day for me!

A thief was quick to test the Lord,
For he wanted to be free.
However, 'twas to the other He said,
Today, in Paradise, thou'll be, with Me.

So sinner I beg of you to come,
Where His precious blood doth fall.
To the blessed feet of Christ,
For He’s made provision for all!

Pour your souls heart cry to Him,
He'll listen and them He'll kindly say,
Come ye, enter into My rest,
I died, on the cross , for you that day!

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
