Invisible Chains
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

Other Poems by Gary James Smith

INVISIBLE CHAINS

Invisible chains that keep us in
Continual bondage to our sin
Gives us space to move around
But fastened fast to demon ground
Just enough to think us wise
Is this devil in disguise
The cause of all heartache and pain
The "father of lies" is his name

When temptations come our way
We give in easily every day
Bound with chains and shackles sore
Unaware how close "hell's door"
Death is distant so we say
Going merrily on our way
Seldom seeing circumstance
Of bringing a change in life perchance

But then it happens "jubilation "
God comes rescuing through Salvation
All the chains are torn asunder
Which had caused our soul to plunder
Shackles too are then released
Now we have sweet joy and peace
Giving praises for our liberty
To Him who wrought the victory

What freedom for a soul to know
Now heavenbound and "safe in tow"
Glory living in the heart
That was given a new start
In our journey around every bend
Is our FOREVER  unfailing FRIEND
WHO took our sin and slew it's power
Exchanging it for blessing showers

Who is the anchor of our soul
And offer Him complete control
For in those mighty arms of strength
We find our peace with God at length
No longer chained and in distress
But clothed now in His righteousness
Because the Lord has freely given
We are truly, truly living!

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
