Mary Hardly Slept
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

Mary Hardly Slept

Mary hardly slept that night
She was almost in derision
Kept thinking about her Lord's demise
About His crucifixion
She watched Him as in agony
He writhed in painfulness
Then hanging there that blessed One
Between two thieves no less

She witnessed how the mocking crowd
Cursed and ragged on Him
And the bloody mess He was
Because of all our sin
She could not hold back her tears
For they had been flowing since
She knew the inevitable had arrived
His life it would be spent

All the recollections of...
Her time here with the Master
Couldn't stop that flow of tears
They even came much faster
So here it was now the third day
She awakened still in wonder
Could it be she thought to herself
Her mind began ponder

So to the tomb she made her way
She knew where they had laid Him
Along with Jesus's mother and Joanna
They hastened to the grave then
They were startled by the sight
The stone was rolled away
And the angel of the Lord saying
Christ has risen today!

Her faith it soared in wonderment
How can...how can it be
She had to let the disciples know
They too...they too had to see
She made her way to where they were
And began her storytelling
All the while within her breast
Her heart was literally swelling

So ran they did to check it out
To verify Mary's saying
So see if it was the truth
Was Jesus still there laying
And swift they went to the site
They ran into the Tomb
Linen clothes were folded there
It was an empty room

Soon they were to meet the Lord
He had for them a surprise
The literal truth made plain as well
Indeed He did arise!
Faith took hold in mighty fashion
"We shall rise then too"
An absolute "sold out as ness"
His disciples did ensue!

He has Risen....He's alive!
They hardly could contain it
Yet seeing with their very own eyes
He had on fresh arraignment
Still the scars on His hands...His feet
For sure! This was the Lord!
Immanuel.. God with us
The written and living Word!

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
