A GIFT WAS GIVEN

A gift was given beyond imagination
Yet experiencially true
A child was born to save all nations
Was born for me and you
The Son, our Deliverer, Immanuel
God with us conceived
In the womb of a virgin girl named Mary
By the Holy Spirit, Believe!

By faith and just by faith alone
Does this miracle unravel
From our patriarch Abraham
To the present day is a marvel
God chose to come in the fulness of time
To fulfil His prophecy
Another proof of His steadfast love
Keeping covenant to you and me

Saved, yes saved by grace alone
No works of ours could win
The victory that He won for us
By dying for our sin
The cross, the symbol lifted up
So that all men might believe
Look to the Saviour's wounds yet visible
Those who come to Him don't leave

I will never leave you
But will send a comforting One
He is another of the same
In the Father, the Spirit, and the Son
My proof is rising from the dead
And appearing to some others
Believe the Word I tell you friend
Become true sisters and brothers

Simple as it all may sound
Held by some in ridicule
But whosoever believes on the Son
Is, nobody's fool
For God Himself bears witness too
This most important fact
By sending us His Holy Spirit
As happened in the book of Acts

That Spirit that bears witness too
We have become believers
Stays with us now and not only that
But until such time we leave here
O Glory to , our God , Immanuel
Jesus, God the Son
Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised
The Father, the Spirit, the Son

Let those hallelujah's ring
Brothers raise your voice
All who come to Christ must sing
There is no better choice
Up from the miry clay we've come
Our garments now made clean
He puts a new song in the heart
Of those who've been redeemed

The angels up in heaven still sing it
Worthy is the Lamb
They can never get over the thought
Christ died for sinful man
Yes, glory has its hallelujahs
Daily they are sung
Not only by the angels in heaven
But by each delivered one.

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
