The Burden

THE BURDEN

The burden can only come through prayer

And it’s Holy Spirit driven

We cannot keep this to ourselves

That precious life we are given.

A relationship with our Lord Himself

A gift from God in Heaven

Puts us in a standing sure

Knowing we’ve been forgiven.

Our righteousness all filthy rags

He knows us through and through

It’s only when we come to Him

We find what He can do!

He takes that heavy weight of sin

Yes, every trial and care!

Removes it far as east from west

And places praises there.

Now relief a sure relief

An instantaneous deed

Seal of approval stamped upon

The ones He’s truly freed.

No longer I who lives within

For Christ now lives in me

Enabling to conquer every sin

That would steal this Liberty .

People now it's people Lord

The lost, You’ve come to save

This burden for the souls of men

We take it to the grave.

We cannot close our eyes at night

But what their peril see

And nestle in Your arms of faith

To pray for them with Thee.

And when You wake us through the night

It’s never a discomfort

But gives us opportunity more

To pray away in triumph!

For we know praise God we know

You are The God Almighty

Your Word shall not return unto You void

You do not hold it lightly.

But Hallowed is Thy Holy Name

The Alpha and Omega

Who spoke and all the world was made

And one day, You will shake it!

Sin, what price Christ had to pay

To make you be no more

But praise God for that Precious Blood

That opened Heaven’s Door!

In our hearts, when You reign

Our prayers are just for others

Not for things that we may want

But for sisters and for brothers.

Even enemies have a place

In our hearts for prayer

For Thou O Lord are a God

Spreading love everywhere.

Every good and perfect gift

Cometh down from Thee

Even our motivation Lord

To pray comes down from Thee.

So here I am again O Lord

You knoweth my petitions

May they be done with earnest, Lord

In broken hearted contrition.

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
