A Wordly Violin

A WORDLY VIOLIN

Sometimes a poem turns into a song

“A song of the soul set free”

Then oft times it is reversed

As songs birth poems in me.

As well as when I’m in God’s Word

It begins to stir within

I hasten to find pen and paper

To write what my soul has seen.

And sweet to me is that Spirit

That to this task doth lend

An inner musical arrangement

A wordly violin!

Strains of which, bring forth chorus

Where notes take off with glee

And do a dance across the page

These notes, they too are free!

Down the corridors of time

And round the days of ease

They find their way to do the job

To make the Spirit pleased.

With energizing heavenly power

Which never does diminish,

They keep at their protocol

Until the job is finished!

Pleasure then comes to this heart

As I give thanks and pray

Lord let these words touch some life

And move them to obey.

There it’s done, my task is done

I’ve been faithful to my Master

I give the poems to my wife

She types them so much faster.

And off they go, the poems go

Who knows where they are off to?

But sent along with a prayer as well

From the Spirit, Who has sought you?

Grace, Grace, Astounding Grace

Abounding Grace, we know it

Still we sing these songs of praise

From the hearts of poets!

Watch it move and work within

This is its finest hour

As men are saved by grace alone

By Holy Spirit power!

Here’s the choir, here they come

The young, the old, the sages

Who do the work for which they’re sent

Bringing life to pages!

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
