Death Is Not a Friend

Death Is Not A Friend

Death is not a friend to man
It was never meant to be
But when Adam disobeyed God
It passed on to you and me
No fun to hear of it's arrival
When a loved one weak and worn
Finally succumbs to sin's wages
Our heart's are tossed and torn

Yes death has that final sting
It thought... that it had won
But the grave brings the victory
Because of Christ the Son
For He arose and we shall also rise
When the trumpet sounds
The dead in Christ shall rise first
Then we are glorybound!

Our blessed hope remains steadfast
For we're in the Shepherd's hand
And He loses...not "one sheep"
This is His Father's plan
What a solace have we here
All those saved by grace
If you know Lord Jesus Christ
You'll see the Father's face

So death you come and flaunt your stuff
For "you" we do not fear
All you can do is give a sting
But Christ is ever near
He's alive! He's alive!
He has risen from the dead
Has proved "Himself" ... the Resurrection
Is still my "living Head!"

Yes I too may grow old and die
But when you're looking at my shell
Remember I'm just a breath away
And with my soul... it is well
I can rejoice and do rejoice
It's a song of a soul set free
Ready to soar where the angels are
There to spend..."eternity!"

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
