I Don't Need God

I Don't Need God

“I am the captain of my soul” – my destiny.
I am smart and quite capable, thank you.
I have great plans and ways to achieve endlessly.
I’ll do what I must to achieve this coup.

I’ll disregard the Bible and all its teachings.
I don’t need it – I know just what to do.
I don’t need the Christian’s God along with His blessings.
I don’t need guidance from pastors and crew.

Oh dear, all my good plans are just not working out.
There’s that old proverbial “monkey wrench.”
What shall I do? First, I think I’ll go off and pout,
Then get it together and just retrench.

Some make it work with all that planning and scheming,
Stepping on others to get there somehow.
Their coffers and opportunities are teeming.
Seem to do it alone by the sweat of their brow.

We don’t know the exact origin of evil.
We only know it crept into Eden.
Temptation came from “that old serpent” the devil
Who suggested they could “be” God – even.

I must turn to God, repent, ask for salvation-
Ask Him to help me – guide my whole life through-
Ask the Lord who made me and all of Creation,
I bow to Him because He’s always true!

About the Poet
I asked Jesus to be my Savior when I was 11 - that was almost 70 years ago as of June 2015. My husband and I had been married for 54 years as of March 2010 before he went Home to Heaven, and we have one son & daughter in law and 3 grandchildren.
