The Old Songs I Love

The old Songs I Love

When I hear songs like “He’s Alive”
It thrills me through and through.
Those choruses that jump and jive
Just don’t sound good to these old ears.

“A Mighty Fortress is our God”
Has meat upon its bones.
It’s Scriptural - unlike some mod
And some old - I have to admit.

“The Love of God” is greater far,
“Tell Me the Old Story,”
“Wonderful Words of Life’s” on par-
“No One Understands Like Jesus.”

“The Lord’s My Shepherd” - I’ll not want
And my cup overflows -
Your hymnal is a restaurant
Of Scriptural songs if you look.

This poem could just go on and on-
So many good old songs
Are not sung - many will just yawn,
Want music loud - little meaning.

I’ll take songs with “meat” I’ll chew on
To feed this soul of mine -
To think about from dawn to dawn
And help me remember Your Word.

“All the Way My Savior Leads Me”
