Signs of Life

Do I really have to earn it -
This life that God commands?
Do what’s right - no sin - to win it-
In Heaven thus to stand?

If so, what would my life be like-
Filled with anxiety?
My little thumb holding the dyke
Trying for piety?

Thank God, I don’t need to do it.
He’ll give me that new life
If I repent and trying quit,
Trust Christ who never lies.

Then sin will be my enemy -
Love for Christ and others.
Of life, I’ll see the brevity,
All the things sin smothers.

“ What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?  Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!”
Romans 7:  24, 25

About the Poet
I asked Jesus to be my Savior when I was 11 - that was almost 70 years ago as of June 2015. My husband and I had been married for 54 years as of March 2010 before he went Home to Heaven, and we have one son & daughter in law and 3 grandchildren.
