Day After Day


In my eighty-fourth year-
(Excuse me if I brag)
You might just read something
Coming from this old bag.

Days are long and energy short.
There’s so much left to do -
Noted for tomorrow -
There are jobs quite a few.

I must do the exercises
The PT assigned me.
Any older person
Knows it is worth the fee.

I must keep moving - you know that.
Sitting down and resting
Won’t “get me anywhere.”
It’s not worth the testing.

Find reasons to laugh at yourself.
Don’t be a “gloomy gus.” 
Look for smiles each new day.
It’s a choice and a must.

God is still on my whole life’s throne.
I’ll never replace Him
With anything on earth,
Even when life grows dim.

That’s all the more reason why
To keep reading His Word -
Never get to know it all,
But reading is preferred.   


“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”
