Autumn and the Leaves

Autumn and the Leaves

I used to love fall and raking the leaves,

The brisk winds and the outside chores.

Now my back and knees and arms have their peeves,

So I have the yard guys do it.

Now that’s just not satisfying to me,

But it’s the life I must lead now.

The red flowers in front and bumble bees

Speak of autumn as I go out.

It’s cool tonight – I think I’ll light the fire,

Watch the flames and daydream a while.

For dream castles – think I’ll find a buyer?

They’re mostly dreams of yesterdays.

Maples turning red – on my way to church-

I wish those leaves would stay longer,

Because each autumn, I go there in search

Of that tree I like so much.

The most beautiful one they’ve now cut down.

Years ago I took a picture.

When I pass there now it’s without a frown.

I just go home and look at it.
