 Our Place

We worked on the place we bought for ten years

And traveled intermittently.

We had great plans for these retirement years.

We’d enjoy them well and fully.

We had lots of time before we’d be old.

We were strong and able to do

Whatever we wanted – we’d be so bold

To use hammer and nails and glue.

Well, we did do that and over the years,

We fixed our place comfortably.

Now we lived close to our family dears,

Son and wife and granddaughters three.

But the years, they have passed so swiftly by.

Seems we grew old very quickly.

We had no clue that one of us would die

Before our son lived to fifty.

Now this place that once we loved seems too big

For one person to occupy.

I don’t have a clue or feather or fig

As to what I will do or why.

I’ll try to take it a day at a time,

Depend completely on my Lord.

I know He’ll always be there “on the dime”

With the love His Grace can afford.

I think it’s working – God’s helping me grow

And think of things I need to do

To help and encourage others just so

That Christ may make their life brand new.
