Nostalgia

Nostalgia embellishes our mem’ries,

Makes the past seem different than it was.

Details contain more than just theories.

Funny or sad, can we remember flaws?

Time moved slowly without television.

We played simple games that we made ourselves

Concocted from scraps without precision

Tools or good machines with which science delves.

We tend to recall things differently

‘Though we grew in the same vicinity,

Place or family, incidentally –

School, family, church – our affinity.

Should we always live in another time

Ruing or treasuring things won or lost?

Is there nothing present that “rings your chimes,”

Pleasures to be had that are without cost?

Inevitably, time on earth will cease,

Even if I keep physically fit.

What’s between me and Christ is what brings peace.

That and my family “is where it’s at!”

About the Poet
I asked Jesus to be my Savior when I was 11 - that was almost 70 years ago as of June 2015. My husband and I had been married for 54 years as of March 2010 before he went Home to Heaven, and we have one son & daughter in law and 3 grandchildren.
