As Long as Earth Remains

             As Long as Earth Remains

In those chilly hours before dawn

Big, fluffy snowflakes fell on the lawn,

Then nestled on the garden mums,

Just floated down, but not in great sums.

As trees swayed gently near the pond,

Deer stood as if painted by a wand.

An owl’s cry was heard from the barn

As the moon set, faded and worn.

The clouds hung, heavy with the snow.

The sun tried to brighten with its glow

While the pond seemed to gleam like pearls.

Then the snow came heavy in bright swirls.

The pine trees and all the branches

Were covered while kids asked, “What’s chances

We’ll be home from school for sledding

And snowball tossing before bedding?”

Smoke poured from the chimneys of homes

Laden with snow like bright, shiny domes.

Horses, cows, chickens stayed in sheds

While Mom got extra blankets for beds.

Soon winter will pass… spring will come.

Rain on the roof will beat its tom-tom.

Crocus will rise and trees bud out,

Bright jonquils and tulips like a shout!

Earth appears relieved and hopeful,

Although warm breezes are yet doubtful.

Blue violets are ev’rywhere,

Growing wild, as God has placed them there.

Mists rise from hollows as earth warms.

God’s well ordered universe performs.

Brand new leaves tremble on the breeze

As God changes the seasons with ease.
