January

Usually busy shops abed for the night-
Temperatures dropping like wintry frost
As smoke from the chimneys curls in dark skies
Alerting the nose to warming hearth fires.
(Fireplaces always roast one on the one side-
Generally the other side freezes!)
Then late morning sun peeks out from the clouds
While frosted roof tops sparkle like tinsel.

Weak light of a winter morning comes through windows,
Gray clouds shrouding "ole sol's" celestial climb,
Hanging low with the burden of contents.
January sun struggles to give light.
This month brings one back to reality-
Festivities over for one more year.
Welcomed daylight hours cheer vision it seems
Like snippets of light between the gray clouds.

Christmas lights are coming down for another year.
Mom stops rushing like the rabbit that's late.
Should that be what Christmas is all about?
Could you and I better plan for next year?
