Hands

Hands
(a take-off on Grandpa's Hands)

My hands have worked to clothe and feed,
Put on my shoes and tie them,
Been dirty from the garden weeds,
Combed my hair and washed my body.

They've been sticky, wet, sunburned too,
Uneasy holding babies.
A wedding band showed the world who
Who was the one I loved.

They shook when God came for my spouse.
They tell where I've been in life.
We worked together on this house.
They're also hands I fold in prayer.

These hands hold up and lay me down.
They're still working pretty well.
I'll use them to lay down my crown
At the feet of my Savior, Christ.

God will reach down HIS hands and take me home.

About the Poet
I asked Jesus to be my Savior when I was 11 - that was almost 70 years ago as of June 2015. My husband and I had been married for 54 years as of March 2010 before he went Home to Heaven, and we have one son & daughter in law and 3 grandchildren.
