 What If

The Wall Street reports today are discouraging.

What’s going to happen there tomorrow?

Are the bailout plans for today encouraging?

Will it bring us hope or more real sorrow?

If the economy’s in seismic disaster,

Gloomy forecasts are a permanent thing.

Do I listen and let fear become my master

As though I had no God to which to cling?

People are dealing with losses in these hard times.

Are we dreaming of the past - or future?

Does the here and now seem without reason or rhyme?

Seems there’s just no hope – maybe a suture?

My mind thinks of the One who prayed through great sorrow

Though He did not abandon the present.

He knew exactly what would come on that morrow,

Yet stayed – God, the Son – He is omniscient.

In this hard time, let us focus on Truth, not fear.

Let us pray in the midst of fear and trial,

Asking for strength, wisdom and help both far and near.

Trust in God’s promises is not denial!
