May His Will Be My Way

May His Will Be My Way

I thought I knew when I let Him in

Whom He'd be in my heart.

Expectations surpassed, saved from sin,

I loved Him from the start.

I try to climb to my Father's lap

Holding on to my "toys."

Time and again He asks me, mayhap,

That I'd release those ploys.

Confidence of fulfillment He'd give

Would fit it all in place;

But my ideas about how I'd live,

With His plan did not lace.

Then He shattered my idea of Him.

False idols had to go.

As I live His mercies do not dim.

They consistently show.

Our pattern prayer reads "Your will be done

On earth as in heaven."

The garden prayer of Jesus, God's Son,

Pled God's will, the given.

The further I progress in this life

As His dear child, I know

He will have to use His pruning knife

Till His reflection glows.

"Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you]."  Romans 12:2 (The Amplified Bible)
