Can I Forgive Those Who Hate Me?

Can I forgive Those Who Hate Me?

I knew someone whom I thought loved me.

I couldn’t understand how she would treat me!

I heard she was a Christian.   She said she was.

She told me; “I don’t like you just because!”

As the years went by, just the way she lived.

I wanted nothing to do with her!  Much less forgive!

The things she did were hurtful and caused pain.

I didn’t even want to mention her name!

Years later, I felt the lord tugging at my heart!

God wanted a healing…

And a fresh start

I wanted an apology…  It never took place.

I felt the Lord asking me

 for more of his grace.

After all these years, with no words spoken.

I heard the news and my heart was broken.

I found out this person was soon at death’s door.

When I found out… I fell to the floor!

I cried “Father in heaven will you please forgive me?

I didn’t love her, in spite of how

 she treated me!”

The opportunity I had was a chance for forgiving.

Now she hasn’t much longer

 that she’ll be living!

May this be a warning

 and a reminder!

To those who have wronged us…

We need to be kinder!

Christ’ love needs to break the “barriers” down.

So forgiveness in our lives

will certainly be found!

About the Poet
I and my wife have 4 grown children and currently live in the Pacific Northwest. I've spent much of my life doing volunteer work in the food distribution for the needy among local churches. Many of the poems I've written are a reflection of times of adversity as a reminder of God's love and faithfulness. I've found many opportunities to share my poems with those who are hurting and discouraged. I'm thankful for the reports of many of the poems touching people's lives. I hope that the poems included on Wordchimes will touch and bless your life too!
