Dedicated to my mother who passed away in February of this year, and left my sister and me hundreds of LP records.

"A Recycled Christmas Gift"

As I walked into the motionless, fireplace heated room,
What a pleasant, surprised Christmas gift
was awaiting me;
Sitting photographically on the family eating bar,
was a classic walnut-stained phonograph,
playing Christmas carols on a 331/3 LP.

That strange, revolving, black, plastic circle,
spell bound and enchanted me --
for I had not seen such a sight for nearly 20 years;
Amazingly, from its slow, but graceful revolutions,
came Christmas music ever so sweet and pure,
bringing to my eyes, ringing bells of holiday tears.

Cassette tapes, Video players, CD's and DVD's
are now the avenue of today's music,
touted ever so real;
Yet, when I listened to that phonograph's sound of music,
like Mary, I pondered these things in my heart,
and wondered to myself, which was the more surreal.

A classic long playing record phonograph,
what a wonderful Christmas gift
was lovingly and graciously given to me;
Not gold, nor frankincense, not even myrrh,
just an old recycled 331/3 LP playing phonograph,
Now treasured by me and my family,
even more than the timeless, traditional Christmas Tree.
