The Statue of Bondage Falls

The Statue of Bondage Falls

With tears welling up in my eyes,
I watch the statue of bondage fall;
What a wonderful and marvelous gift
Freedom is to Americans, Iraqis
And for us all.

An American tank in the city mall,
An American flag on the statue's face;
Soldiers, citizens, journalists too,
An Iraqi flag placed at the statue's base.

In jubliation, an Iraqi young man
Running down the street with an American Flag;
Elated in his soul by the visible truth,
True freedom has finally come
to the city of Baghdad.

Show not arrogance nor superpower pride,
Humility is the path to take in this military race;
For as the statue of bondage falls --
All the world has seen a 21st Century picture
of God's awesome mercy and grace.
