An Empty Holiday Plate

An Empty Holiday Plate

As I sit at the dinner table,
staring at my empty holiday plate;
My soul begins to reflect,
On 2005's most uncertain slate.
So much left undone,
in this year of our Lord 2004;
May make my 2005, less a joy,
and more an undesirable chore.
I don't mean to be pessimistic,
at this inviting time;
But for now, life is more
like a cracked liberty bell,
than a pipe organ's silver chime.

My stomach is full, but my soul
is not voraciously satisfied;
As this empty plate crystal ball,
reveals a most confusing 2005.
Silence is golden, but
noise of success is prayerfully preferred;
Must be careful, lest I strike out,
on 2004's slow, hanging curve.
This year's land of promise,
became a landmass of never-ending strife;
Surely, this is not all there is,
to this rite of passage of my life.

Why are you downcast my soul,
lay aside this besetting weight;
For His grace can refill your life,
just like I can refill this empty holiday plate.
