The Last Gasp of Summer

The Last Gasp of Summer

Have you noticed the subtle change in the air

Cooler evenings, still very warm days and fair

Lawns, gardens, flower beds still needing care

But harvesting has begun, fewer blooms on many plants

Cocoons beginning to form, not for the still very busy ants

Some color showing on certain trees and shrubs one grants

While some flowers fade, chrysanthemums come into their own

Even some now in bright full bloom

And of course, shorter days noticeably in summer's gloom

Shorter days in summer's gloom

The Last Gasp of Summerr (c)2013 Quentin Clingerman
