Waving Palms
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

By Quentin Clingerman
Other Poems by Quentin Clingerman

Waving palms may mean one is in the tropics
Or semitropics
Coconuts may fall and warm breezes waft their
cooling fans
Where leisurely one walks a sandy beach
Or dozes on a beach chair there

A different scene in total contrast is cast upon
history's pages
These waving palms were branches in the hands of
followers of the King
Who had watched him perform the miracles
and teach them many wonderful things
They thought he had come to Jerusalem to become
their earthly King

Within the week their hopes would be dashed with
harsh and final cruelty

But now loud hosannas ring and everything appears
to be a victorious celebration

And others leisurely walk the beach or doze in
quite contemplation
