The Metered Art

Friends and family, even strangers, gather round the metered art
Reading silently or aloud,  the sounds in the mind do start
Rhyming verse or blank , it matters not
The latest, freshest meter hits the spot

Like a flock of magpies scolding or cheering
It is all wonder filled in the hearing
Sounds that echo melodic or discordant
Still gives insight, beauty, at times mordant

To metered art, this salute
It will always be in hot pursuit
By minds which day dream in salutary rhyme
Lost in fantasy, or profoundity in measured time.
