Two Brothers Went off to War

Two Brothers Went off to War

My two older brothers
Enlisted to do their patriotic duty
Went off to war

The younger in the Navy
Nearly blown out of the water
Off Tokyo, Japan

His story in the local paper
A home town hero!

The older who because he was colorblind
Couldn't become a pilot, so became a foot soldier
And did his time in Europe after the German surrender

Came home more quietly, but
A hero to his family

They had done their patriotic duty

A younger brother went to Vietnam
He too enlisted
Came home injured in body and soul

No hero's welcome
Except from his closest family

Two bothers went off to war.
Now in the grave awaiting the resurrection

The third brother, active in the VFW
Marches in the Memorial Day parades
He sees himself as a patriot too!
