Running Off the Road
by Quentin S Clingerman

Want an ambulance ride
Lights flashing, siren shrieking
In the summer's heat
You the patient on the back seat?

Want to watch the emergency vehicles
Pull up by the side of the road
You watch as a casual observer
Except it's your car and you they are there for?

Want to wonder what happened as you drove down the road
Minding your own business so to speak
When suddenly you are against a telephone pole
On the other side of the street?

Well, my friend, just run off the road
Do it very slowly though
No one gets hurt that way
Don't remember doing it, gives everyone
pause

Running off the road is a scary thing
Especially in broad daylight
Passing out while driving cannot be
recommended
It is just not good practice, might get your license suspended

But it will get you attention, that's for sure!
And a ride in an ambulance through the summer's heat
And hours on your back in the ER
Don't forget that great feat!

Ha! Especially that great feat!

Note: Thank the Lord no one else was involved in the little "accident" and I was not injured and the car not damaged. And when they did the brain scan they found nothing! But that's worth another poem. ;) Que

Author's Note: Oct. 15, 2002 (or there about) I got dizzy while driving, fainted and crossed the center line and off the road into a telephone pole. The Lord was with me as there was not damage to car or injury to me or anyone else. A little over a month later I had right side carotid artery surgery to remove plaque. The artery was 98% closed. I was really a stroke ready to happen. Thank the Lord all is well. My neck right now makes me look a little more like Frankenstein's monster! (9-18-02) Que
