A wreath laid so carefully
Hands gently caressing black marble
AS though touching a long lost face
That has come home

Tears falling to the ground
And muffled sobs
Memories of days long gone
A prayer for peace

Memorial Day (c) 2000 Quentin Clingerman

Author's note: Written inmemory of my two older brothers who were veterans of WWII.
