Ode to the Crocus

Oh, little harbinger of Spring
Your vivid color chastens the pallid winter
You speak of delightful days ahead
Where the the atmosphere will fill with wonder
The scent and hue of Spring in all of its variety
Oh, little harbinger of Spring
I gratefully shout your name, Crocus
A view of you on lawn or field
Excites the mind to speculate on plowing, planting
On all things that turn green, or blossom
Stirs the heart to gratitude for rebirth, of a new start
Woos the soul to deeper sense of God's creative purpose
Oh, little harbinger of Spring
I salute you, delight in your small but bright bloom
That invites me from the sedentary of the house
To, even in chill prespring, walk along outdoor paths
Looking for other harbingers of Spring
