Whippoorwill Lament

The whippoorwill moved about arrogantly in his domain
He could be heard loud and clear in sunshine or rain
Then one day, the story goes, cagey crows and bully blujays
Moved in to set up their own developments
Now whippoorwill flits about with a mere whimper

If you listen carefully you can hear him calling,
"Whimperwill, whimperwill, whimperwill.!
