Uncle Marion

He was a tall man
A slender man
A handsome man
Except when he drank
He was an alcoholic

He was a generous man
A kind man
A hard working man
Except when he drank
He was an alcoholic

He neglected his wife
He neglected his children
He neglected himself
Because he drank
Because he was an alcoholic

Died at fortysix years of age
A wasted life of an otherwise okay guy
Died of overexposure to the elements
Because he drank
Because he was an alcoholic

At one point he had stopped
But said he still liked a beer or two
Of course, that never was enough
Because he drank
Because he was an alcoholic
