                 Simeon

Between the times of New and Old,
I wait and wait as I am told
To see Him, while I wait for death,
I breathe the promise with each breath.

Old Words foretell His coming here
To end anxiety and fear,
I am both eager for that day,
And anxious for a short delay.

Today, I’m told, will be the end
Of doing deeds I thought would mend
My sins and earn a place for me
In heaven for eternity.

Today, I die, and dies the Old,
All that I’ve practiced and been told,
But born is peace, in peace I go,
The waiting’s over, this I know.

Inside the temple, lies the Son,
At heart inside of everyone,
An altar food of love and light
To fill the spirit with delight!

Here, at His altar I can fill
My hungry spirit with His will,
And find a peace my deeds can’t find,
A peace beyond my mortal mind.

He will not fail, He’s come to save,
Our failure takes Him to His grave
Where He will conquer hate and death,
And give us hope with every breath.

Before New Life, Old Life must die
To end the will we glorify,
But born is peace, and this I know,
The waiting ends, in peace I go.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
