Hope Lives When I Have You

Hope Lives When I Have You

Of that in me which pleases You,
I chance to not presume,
But that in You which pleases me
Is Hope which You exhume.

Not me, I’m quick to bury hope
And seal the dark tomb tight,
An existentialist at day,
A pragmatist at night.

Yet when Your light shines through the dark,
My eyes cannot resist
To look upon that ray of hope
And wonder what I’ve missed.

What fools we seem, unlikely pair,
Such opposites we two,
I quit, but You do not give up,
Hope lives when I have You.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
