A Proper Place

        A Proper Place

This is no proper place for You,
It’s best You let me be
And set Your sights upon a view
More fit for royalty.

It’s best You go, why ask again
If I will take you in,
You’ll only see me now and then
Resort to covet sin.

My home is made from mud and straw,
With much dirt underfoot,
The atmosphere is cold and raw
And settles thick as soot.

I’ve had some notions to move out
And find a cleaner home,
But then, the devil calls on doubt
To rattle my aplomb.

And so I stay with what I know,
A dark familiar place
Where basic natures come and go
Without a thoughtful trace.

This is a stable for a beast,
But then, how You must know,
You came here first to be the least,
Then served where You did go.

Much like the place You had your start,
I guess I have been wrong,
Please enter in and change this heart
To be where you are born.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
