A Home for Jesus

            A Home for Jesus

From timber, straps, some mud and stone,
This house was raised upon the ground
Like others raised by flesh and bone
By those who are to ashes bound.

The sentence from an ancient crime
To suffer, labor, strive in pain,
Eke out a living framed in time
From birth to death on death’s terrain.

Can houses be a heaven’s home,
More than a dwelling of the earth,
A dwelling of celestial loam
Where heaven’s virtues sprout new birth?

In Nazareth, of Galilee,
Unknown throughout a thousand years,
There lived a maiden, called is she,
And listens to the call she hears.

Her home was raised upon her heart
With walls to keep corruption out,
A roof to shield each hallowed part,
A window and a door devout.

A table set to feed her soul
With faith in words received from God
And served to her within a bowl
Divine, eternal, pure, unflawed.

“Fear not”, the angel’s voice exclaims,
“Fear not, for God has favored you”,
“I am His maiden”, she proclaims,
“And by your word, then will I do.”

Not bound to mortal earth’s terrain,
The Word from heaven entered in
Through one who is the Son’s domain
To house eternity within.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
