The Earth Holds Firmly, First the Root

The earth holds firmly, first the root
Within post-Eden's womb,
From where springs up man's errant shoot
To be, and bud, and bloom.

The heavens offer up pure light
To all in gardens green,
From where those made by Him shine bright
And heaven's beauty's seen.

Rose-folds of raptured petals red,
Like hands of men who pray,
From where the Man of heaven said
Here love and spirit stay.

And though the earth first firmly holds
The root of all that's born,
The heaven's light unfolds a rose
That overcomes the thorn.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
