     Shadrach, Meshach, Abed-Nego

Around us, furnace fire leaps about,
We hear the snap and sizzle of its shout,
The crack of flames like whips that slice the air
On any other flesh would burn and tear,
But we are blessed to face the furnace flames,
We three who have been given foreign names
Still answer to our Hebrew names within
Our hearts and souls, God's truth and love therein,
No idol thing of any kind we praise,
We love the living God and all His ways,
He stands with us amidst the flames of fire,
And raises courage in our spirits higher,
Unlike majestic shining gods of gold
That melt and pour into a man-made mould.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
