Transfiguration

              Transfiguration

Suggesting to construct three booths,
The three to shelter each one’s truths,
Elijah, Moses, Jesus Christ
Together, nothing less sufficed
To honor three who asked for naught,
Give praise and honor ancients taught,
So, Peter said three booths we’ll make,
But two soon vanished- his mistake,
If he had built three booths that day,
Then, what of each inside might stay?

Three booths if built and entered in,
Three likely changes may begin,
The first will be a change of form-
A breaking from the current norm,
Ten rules to follow from the start,
No need to burn them in the heart,
From Sinai carved in stone they came,
The writer has a hallowed name,
Fear Him or life will not go well,
Fear not and live a living hell.

The second booth is hard to see,
The patron sat beneath a tree,
Where he in spirit struggled here,
Preferring death to living fear,
He wouldn’t drink and wouldn’t eat,
Convinced his duty brought defeat,
The one who asked him is the same
As previous with hallowed name
Who then gave water and gave bread
To save him from the living dead.

The third is bright and radiant,
A self-fulfilling covenant,
A wave of light like ripples of
The first and everlasting love
Reflecting back to where it came
From Him who has that hallowed name,
A booth cannot contain this light,
It reaches through the darkest night,
A light of hope on heaven’s shore,
A knock upon each heart’s closed door.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
