Spring Pageant

            Spring Pageant

At rest through winter’s cold and frost
When snows by icy winds are tossed,
Beneath wild storms from winter’s fray,
As if a patient heart at bay,
With nothing ventured, nothing lost,
The daffodils await the day,
When warmer welcomes come their way,
Then rising up on slender stems,
Each crowned with yellow diadems,
They shine in season on display.

The call goes out to those in kind,
No longer wait, arrive and find
A warm reception now on hand
To see spring’s pageant bloom firsthand,
The daisies dress for spring designed
In ruffled petals, purple band
Trimmed ‘round the petals neatly and
A spray of pollen sprinkled where
The spring-dressed daisies spread to share
With those who gather gold as planned.

Gaillardia in rays of red
Flared out about each fuzzy head
To points of yellow-tapered tips,
Prepare for honey-bee’s courtships
Each spring within the flower bed,
No time of season can eclipse
How verdant, vibrant spring equips,
Parading nature’s beauty free,
Proclaimed by God’s divine decree
Of bud and bee relationships.

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
