Columbia Independence Day Parade

On stilts twelve feet above our eyes
With clear blue backdrop peaceful skies,
In stripes and stars his presence shines,
It's Liberty this day enshrines.

The first day's dawning new light greets
This day and every day, repeats
A Freedom ordered as before
Then born again and evermore.

Within the landscape of each heart,
Where fields in nature's law impart
The Spirit planted from without
The soul mills reason 'round about

And separates, like chaff from germ,
The temporal from truly firm,
Declares in writing to a king,
By 'Nature's God' let Freedom ring!

About the Poet
Husband, father, grandfather, and each title is my joy. As a youth, poetry was a means to express the inexpressable. I was attracted to (and still am) the beauty and brevity of verse. All flows out from God, and like a proper prayer, can flow back.
